Architecture meets earth in Mondercange
Synergy between architecture and earth
Located in Mondercange, this garden is characterized by its dialogue with the prismatic, sculptural form of the house. The residence itself is a striking architectural statement with its bold geometric structures, subtly recalling the classic typologies of Luxembourg city townhouses. The garden design was conceived to complement the house and reinforce its architectural presence, anchoring it in nature while giving it the impression of floating above the landscape.
A flourishing symphony
In the front garden, a sequence of large floating concrete slabs leads gracefully to the main entrance. On either side, natural sandstone boulders give the impression that the house is emerging naturally from the earth. This composition is softened by a tapestry of ornamental grasses - Panicum virgatum ‘Northwind’ intertwined with Sesleria autumnalis, Pennisetum alopecuroides and the delicate flowers of Astrantia major. In the center stands a Betula nigra, whose textured bark provides a sculptural counterpoint to the building's refined masonry.
The real heart of the garden lies in the lowered lounge, a welcoming refuge carved into the ground. Surrounded by concrete retaining walls with a textured wood finish and furnished with a Douglas fir bench, this intimate space invites you to relax around a fire or a barbecue, while offering a breathtaking view of the surrounding fields.
