Romantic garden in Bettendorf

A wild and romantic panorama

Completed in 2020, this garden in Bettendorf showcases the beauty of romantic wilderness combined with minimalist architecture. The carefully planned space embodies the poetic interplay between architecture and nature, juxtaposing linear minimalism with amorphous natural forms.
The result is a living environment where family life, seasonal changes and ecological sensibility converge, creating a garden that is at once intimate, dynamic and deeply connected to its surroundings.

This romantic garden has been created using a multi-level design, with each level representing a unique theme and planting arrangement. We invite you to discover the different levels through our photos and explanations.

Several levels of romantic wilderness

The upper level is inspired by the forest, where multi-trunk Betula jacquemontii and sculptural multi-stemmed Ginkgo biloba provide vertical rhythm and sculptural presence. A carefully selected undergrowth of hostas, Hakonechloa macra, Asarum europaeum and Hydrangea paniculata ‘Limelight’ introduces a nuanced contrast of textures and colours, creating depth and seasonal dynamism. A wooden pergola with integrated swings adds a subtle industrial touch. Strategically placed rocks, sourced locally, serve to separate the slope, acting as both functional anchors and sculptural landmarks that accentuate the garden's layered topography.

Descending the slope, the central terrace is revealed: a vast outdoor room that connects harmoniously with the lower levels. The space is enveloped by ornamental grasses (Calamagrostis, Stipa, Verbena), providing both softness and movement while framing and drawing the eye through the different levels of the garden.
